Fidel Castro said: ¨Frank Pais was a symbol of the young generation who sacrificed for the Revolution.¨
Born on December 7th, 1934 in Santiago de Cuba under the strict relegious education received by his parents, Frank Pais had an early taste for music, painting and also was a great admirer of Marti´s work and thinking, as part of a developing patriotic conviction that would define his life.
After watching the horror caused by the Batista soldiers´ massacre on the Moncada garrison´attackers, he decided to follow ¨La Historia me Absolvera¨ precepts and Fidel as the main leader of the movement.
As said by Raul, Frank gathered the very best of Santiago de Cuba´s youngsters, he wanted to continue the struggle, and when conditions were created, he and his men were under Fidel´s commands.
Frank Pais went to Mexico to meet with Fidel in two times to specify details of the uprising in Santiago de Cuba, and returned appointed by Fidel as National Movement Action Chief, position in which he multiplied the action with effectiveness.
Therefore, Frank Pais and the city of Santiago de Cuba became the first advance point of the rearguard guerrilla representd by the Cuban people.
Thus, under the most difficult conditions and tenaciously persecuted by the pack of thugs of the regime, Frank deploys until his murder the most intense clandestine period to be faithful to the confidence conferred by Fidel, and the word that “the day that remains a single Cuban who believes in this revolution, that Cuban will be me ».
Of that personality, the value and the transcendence of Frank, an integral reflection would realize Raul after the Triumph of the Revolution: “With little more than 20 years, Frank had the stature of a true politician, the maturity of a seasoned fighter, the combative aim of a veteran, the tenacity of a convinced man and the personal courage of a fighter of the first line.
Straight on the principles, organized and demanding, with a proverbial modesty, brave to the point of recklessness and of an unusual intuition, he was the kind of man who penetrate deep and definitively into the hearts of the people.
