Cuban president makes a government visit to Las Tunas province

Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez, President of the Republic of Cuba, announced Thursday 16, through social networks the beginning of a government visit to the province of Las Tunas.

The Cuban president wrote in his Twitter account: On his way to Las Tunas for a government visit. Using the hashtags: We are Cuba, We are continuity.

Las Tunas is a province of eastern Cuba that occupies the ninth place in extension with 6 thousand 587 square kilometers, representing six percent of the total area of ​​the country.

It houses 4.8 percent of the Cuban population with 532 thousand 645 inhabitants and a density of 81.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The city of Las Tunas is its capital and the most populated urban center.

It is also one of the youngest provinces, as it was created in 1975, complying with territories belonging to the former provinces of Camagüey and Oriente.

Agriculture, livestock and sugar have been traditional economic activities in Las Tunas.Regarding industries, Las Tunas stands out in sugar production and its derivatives, and metallurgical devolvment.

In the tour of Las Tunas, the president is accompanied by Manuel Marrero, Prime Minister of the nation, who along with Diaz-Canel will travel through different territories of the province to verify the progress of productive programs and exchange with workers from different economic sectors.
