Cuban president attends Japanese Garden reopening

The Japanese Garden, the only one of its kind in Cuba it´s located in the National Botanical Garden. It was reopened on Wednesday 28, in a ceremony attended by the President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.

This emblematic botanical garden was inaugurated by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, on October 26, 1989. The leader of the Revolution express at that time: “This garden will be increasingly beautiful, and this capital of our homeland will be increasingly human and more beautiful.”

According to a tweet from @PresidenciaCuba, the capital restoration of the Japanese Garden included the change of the waterproofing system, the renewal of the hydraulic system and the rethinking of gardening.All processes respected their original design.

The garden, of five hectares, exhibits plants of the Asian country and others that, due to their shape, texture or flowering, satisfy the design requirements that, together with the lake and the viewpoint, allow the enjoyment of an interesting landscape.

For the construction of this of the National Botanical Garden there were used 45 thousand 350 cubic meters of excavations, 15 thousand 607 cubic meters of clay contribution and 18 thousand 748 cubic meters of topsoil were made.

A total of 1,620 large stones, with a total weight of 846 tons, were transported to the National Botanical Garden from the provinces of Pinar del Rio (Laguna de Piedras and Soroa), Sancti Spiritus (Playa Ancon) and Havana (Santa Maria beach, as well as pebble from Santa Cruz del Norte).

At the beginning of the construction, the location of the Buddhist pagoda consisting of thirteen pieces of granite sculpted by hand, donated by the Japanese side.
