In an open debate of the Security Council about this subject, the permanent alternate representative of Cuba before the United Nations, Ana Silvia Rodriguez, denounced that they have all made a flagrant violation of the Multilateral Organization and International Human Rights Charter.
‘We reiterate our condemnation of the illegal construction and expansion of Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory and the demolition and confiscation of Palestinian properties,’ she stressed.
Such action, together with the blockade of the Gaza Strip, violate the Fourth Geneva Convention and erode the viability of a solution based on the creation of two States, indicated the ambassador.
Since the last open debate about this issue at the Council, no progress in favor of the cause of the Palestinian people has been attained and, on the contrary, in the last quarterly there’s has been a dangerous worsening of deterioration of the situation.
A year after the Great Return March, Israel continues using force in a indiscriminate and disproportionate manner against tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, who peacefully protest for the end of occupation, the blockade and the realization of their rights, she reported.
Meanwhile, added the ambassador, Israeli air bombings continue massacring Palestinian people, while the Security Council remains silent, Rodriguez stressed.
In fact, the result is very unfortunate -she continued- that this body, due to repeated obstruction by the United States delegation, does not condemn the escalation of violence and tragedies that occurred in the Gaza Strip, since March 30, 2018.
Cuba also expressed a profound concern for the decision of Israel to not renew the mandate of the Temporary International Presence in Hebrón, and it is very unfortunate that the Security Council is also incapable to demand accounts in this sense, observed the diplomat.
