Cienfuegos Book Fair 2018 was inaugurated with a varied morning parade motivated by the representation of Chinese culture and the opening of sales areas at José Marti Park.

The fair began in Cienfuegos today, a cultural event dedicated to the centenary of the local poet Luis Gomez and the décima as a literary expression.

The 27th edition of Cienfuegos Book Fair will have as special guest the prestigious Cuban intellectual Eusebio Leal Spengler, who will be granted the status of ¨Hijo Ilustre de Cienfuegos¨ (Illustrious Son of Cienfuegos) on March 8, after giving a conference at Cienfuegos People´s Power Building.

During the days of this literature festival, conferences, panels, tributes and promotion of books will take place in the city of Cienfuegos, spaces where several national publishing houses such as Arte y Literatura, Letras Cubanas, Milenio, Arte Cubano, Gente Nueva, as well as the Spanish SELVI publishing house, and local publishing houses Mecenas y Reina del Mar, will be inserted.

Cienfuegos Book Fair 2018 program is scheduled until Saturday 10 March, and it includes panels devoted to the promotion of the décima, the material and immaterial heritage as well as cultural policies.

The Literary Professional Program and the editing workshop will be held at the Provincial Museum Concert Hall.  It will be also recognized during the fair the well-deserved homage to Cienfuegos poet Luis Gómez and the just value to the décima as a literary work.

There will also take place from March 10-11, in the mornings at Prado and San Fernando streets an activity called “Entre libros y tonadas”( tonada is a folk music style of Spain and some countries of Hispanic America), led by Alberto Vega Falcón, there will participate repentistas (people who sing improvised sang verse) and writers. For the second year in a row, Cienfuegos UNEAC Gardens will receive the “Dios y los Locos” Literary Cafe at 5 pm, with the lead of the intellectual Ian Rodríguez Pérez.

Cultural space designed for the projection of national and foreign audiovisuals, related to literature, where local writers, visitors and young authors will read poetry and discuss the vast Chinese culture.
